I was born in 1980, and I grew up singing along with Kate Wolf's music thanks to my Mom. Kate's music has inspired me to make my own, and given me hope that one can get away with writing and singing about true things; nature, love, and emotions. I am still awed at her musical talent and ability to reach many types of people with her folk music. Every girl friend I've ever shared Kate's music with, has become a huge fan. If I'd ever had the chance to meet her, I would've thanked her for her honest music, and fearlessness of writing and singing about true things. Thank God she ended up deciding to share herself with all of us. Thanks, Kate, you're music is a great inspiration and such a pleasure to experience! |

On this melancholy, overcast Wednesday evening . . I just heard KPIG play one of Kate's fine songs. That brought to mind all the excellent songs Kate had written which still live though the voices of others. It does seem the truly great are gone much too soon . . but the echoes of their work still come bounding off the hills, still wash up with the waves . . always reminding us that the flickering flame of their being will never be extinguished. 'Kate' . . one of those names that will never need further explanation to those who appreciate some of the finest lyrical imagery ever created. Thanks for reminding us Kate, every time we hear you sing one of those beautiful songs.
They 'are' as majestic as this beautiful country we share. PL |

I've loved Kate's music from the first song I heard, Across the Great Devide, & I've been a fan ever since. I recorded Medicine Wheel in 93' on a CD & continue to perform Kate's songs
while at my gigs as a solo artist.
Her songs are inspiring, uplifting,& beautiful
moving lyrics & melodies. Her voice was clear
& full of passion & had a way of touching my
heart then & now. Nina Gerber is an outstanding musician & I admire her talent so much as well.

Just want to share something very special that happened to me in connection with Kate several years ago. It was fall in 1994, I heard Across The Great Divide on Nanci Griffith's Other Voices album and just had to find out who this songwriter Kate Wolf was and did she have record her own music as well. From Nanci's liner notes I gathered that Kate was no longer on the earth with us, but never-the-less, I couldn't shake the feelings of wanting more of that music. As you know this was long before iTunes or and the internet was beginning to build. Then it happened. I was driving home after a class (college) one afternoon when I got the strongest urge to stop and the nearest Goodwill Store. Being a young person at the time, I never, ever went there unless it was Halloween or something. But this feeling was overwhelming so I drove straight to the Goodwill and got out. I didn't have any idea why I was there, I just thought I should look around. When I came upon a bin of old cassette tapes, I couldn't beleive I HAD to go through them!!!! I AM NOT a metaphysical, spiritual, spooky type of person and the drive to rifle through those tapes was STRONG!!! If I could have run out of that place I would have. Anyway, in a short time, my hand pick up a Kate Wolf cassette. As I stared at it, it was as if I'd picked up a rattle snake and couldn't let go. I couldn't hear, my heart was pounding and I mentally shook myself and said, "OK, time to go now!" Then as clear as a bell I heard, "NO, there's more." Shaking, I dug in the bin again and quickly found another one. When I had both in my hand, that whole wierd, driving feeling left me instantly. I was now free to go. And so I did taking my scarry cassettes with me. Those cassettes didn't stay scarry for long. They introduced me to a world of beautiful and eathereal music like I'd never known. |
