"I'm going to do this song that I wrote at the cable car benefit some time ago at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco. And this is a story which is, incredibly enough, true. I didn't know that when I wrote it, but last night at the concert that we did in Davis, a man came up to me white as a sheet and said, 'That's the story of my grand uncle.'
This is about a young man who lived in West Texas. And his girlfriend decided she was going to go to California, to San Francisco. And against his mother's wishes, he quit his job on the ranch and went after her. But he had to find a job, and so he tangled with the cable car."
